The internet has been making leaps and bounds when it comes to making purchases and transactions, but this trend is making it easy for people to get gypped.
The internet is the greatest human innovation. And for as long as man has existed, someone or something has attempted to influence him. The Garden of Eden’s snake, Bill Clinton in Monica Lewinsky, Nicholas Cage in that movie where he is a con-man (Con-Man) have all lied to and manipulated people to get what they want.
Why Lie Online
People lie online because it is easy. With sites like Ebay and Craigslist where the only proof someone has of product quality is a description and some pictures, it is not hard for many people to sell false products. There are viruses that allow people to take the personal information of others, and spam that could drive a monk crazy with advertisements. Individuals are responsible for ensuring that their purchases are authentic. But that doesn’t mean it is not frustrating having to deal with people trying to scam others all the time.
There are sites online that will plagiarize everything you do, others that will steal your credit card information. If someone is surfing the web and sees a deal they think is nice, they may click it. Before they know it they have given up almost all personal information to a “company” in india.
Astounded by the massive amount of thiefs and cheats online, I have wondered “why?” Because it is easy.
People Do It
The fact that people have no better dreams or life plans than stealing money from people through identity theft or by cheating people out of purchases, is one that reflects upon society more than anything else. The ethic of many people is decreasing and warping so that people will do anything to make money and avoid work. Younger generations feel like they are entitled to things they are not, spending far more than their means because they are able.
People think to thereselves, “Should I get a job and be productive to make honest money and provide a honest service? No, it is much easier to sell items on the internet for a lot of money by using false pictures and descriptions. I’ll sell them junk they think is actually a good item,” or at least it seems so at times. Do people not understand the stress and ruin they cause when they cheat or steal or lie? Do they care? All one can do is try to distinguish between “bad” online deals and “good” ones. If those who do bad business online are found out and the general population avoids them, they will get no business and thus stop.
Conclusion:
