The road to self-realization begins with soul searching and knowing who we are, where we come from and where we are headed in life.
Soul Searching and Self-Realization
Many of us go through life without truly knowing our own being. Our hectic life leaves us with very little time to focus on ourselves and our happiness, and we basically forget who we really are and what our purpose in life is. And then something happens to us that triggers the light bulb to go on in our head and we suddenly realize how much time and energy had been wasted in search of unrealistic things.
We immediately begin questioning our true nature and motives. The question becomes: “Who am I?” “What am I made of?” “How can I improve my being?” “How can I be enlightened?” Then the journey into our soul begins. We plunge ourselves into the depth of our heart and soul searching for answers.
What is True Happiness and Enlightenment
In search of true happiness and salvation one must ask what the real source of contentment is. Are fame, fortune, desire, success, respect, or power essential factors of bliss? If you really believe any of these materials can bring happiness into your life, then you are on the wrong track. None of these materialistic things are permanent, and in most cases they end with misery and disappointment.
Absolute salvation is when we separate ourselves from temporary substance. Our body is an example of temporary substance and our soul the everlasting immortal element. When we die we cannot take any objects, nor wealth, fame or respect with us. Therefore, why not search for true happiness and find inner peace while we are alive and separate ourselves from any and all materials.
The search should in fact begin with acknowledging the importance and the purpose of our being; not our body, but our soul. In other phrases, the best way we can achieve salvation and become enlightened is through our everlasting soul. When we are ignorant of our own “being” we are actually attached to this ignorance just like we are attached to materials. Consequently, as long as we are ignorant of our own self and our happiness, our efforts to attain salvation become void.
What is Our Life’s Objective and Purpose?
Most people live their life without having an ultimate goal. Many lives are wasted trying to take care of families, worrying about monetary issues and struggling to solve financial and family problems. All of these troubles are created by mankind in the first place. Our hunger for wealth, success and fame lead us to self destruction.
We compete in the business world to attain assets and worldly goods, and to become superior. Ultimately, in the midst of our battle in this materialistic world we lose self control and self respect because all we desire is to be in “power”. We may think we have a goal in our life, but realistically our objective is a materialistic one because it stems from our desire.
Instead, we should have a goal and a purpose of detaching our “being” from items and objects and familiarizing ourselves with our spirit. Hence, our only purpose should be to educate ourselves about our real “self”. Take a time to consider what your soul needs and hungers for. Certainly not wealth nor success. Liberate yourself from jealousy, anger, judgment, frustration, competitiveness, fear, and worries. Strive to find peace with yourself and you shall be enlightened.
Those of us who live their life helping others, are the ultimate happy beings because their time and energy is utilized to bring happiness to others and leading themselves to liberation.
Happiness should never be followed by misery. Happiness lies within you. Look deeper in your thoughts and your heart. Ask yourself if you really need materials in order to attain ecstasy. Find your soul’s tranquility.
